Believe in the Cure L2W Event

In case you did not catch on with all of the informative Ovarian Cancer posts these past weeks, this month is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month! We have given you sneak peeks and inside scoops on the Believe in the Cure works of art, but now it is time to fill you in on all the amazing things that occurred at this event, hosted by our fabulous founder, Jane Allen.

Jane and Phil Allen

Six years ago, Jane was diagnosed with Stage III Ovarian Cancer by Dr. Bender. Through the tough treatment process, she found strength in the inspirational and lifting words of Dr. David Bender and his research team at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The support of family and friends gave her the motivation to fight this beast of a disease. Today, by the work of God and all who encouraged her along the way, we are so happy to say that Jane is completely cancer free!

Dr. David Bender and the Allen Family

After she overcame cancer, Jane knew it was her calling to share this inspiration and awareness with others. She and her husband, Phil, created this amazing event, Believe in the Cure, to raise awareness and support for Ovarian Cancer Research conducted locally at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. This event also honored the very skilled Dr. David Bender and his team for the hard work and support they provided through Jane's difficult journey. We were blessed to hear Dr. Bender and the entire Allen family speak their truths about cancer and the challenging diagnosis/treatment process. In case you were not there to hear some of the statistics given at the event, I have included a few that are very important to spreading awareness on Ovarian Cancer:

  • Ovarian Cancer is the 5th leading cause of cancer deaths in women.

  • About 1 in 75 American women will develop ovarian cancer in her lifetime

  • Worldwide, more than 200,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year, and 140,000 women die from the disease

  • When ovarian cancer is detected in the early stages, there is an 85 to 90% chance for a cure
